Engaging with Community

Our caring culture is fundamental to achieving Pfizer’s purpose to deliver breakthroughs that change patients’ livesTM. This includes developing innovative medicines and vaccines, encouraging colleague wellbeing, encouraging diversity and excellence in the workplace, supporting our community, and doing what we can to reduce our impact on the environment. 

Pfizer CARES is our Corporate Social Responsibility driving these efforts and supporting our caring culture.

The Pfizer CARES program is supported by  the senior leadership team that meets regularly to discuss how Pfizer should best care for patients, colleagues, community and our environment.

Pfizer provides up to four volunteer days for colleagues to volunteer for any organisation or charity that has community impact. Organisations we frequently support include Ronald McDonald House, Foodbank, Starlight Children’s Foundation, Variety The Childrens’ Charity and The McGrath Foundation.    

In addition to responding to community need, Pfizer has two colleague led grant programs – our Charity of Choice and Community Collaboration Grants. 


Charity of Choice: Our Charity of Choice is chosen every three years by our colleagues. Our charity of choice must:

a) have a national presence;

b) advance human health and wellbeing or education; and

c) support colleague volunteering opportunities in areas our colleagues live and work.


Patients are at the centre of our daily work.  We seek to listen to, empower and support patients who take our medicines. We do this in three key ways:

  1. Insights & Immersion – listening to patients and understanding their experience as best we can to respond with empathy and effective solutions where we can.

  2. Empowering & Equipping – investing in patient organisations and providing information to support clinical conversations that empower patients.

  3. Support & Service – investing in patient organisations and their services as well as some information and medication delivery services of our own


We care for colleagues with a safe, diverse and inclusive workplace and we uphold our values of Courage, Excellence, Joy and Equity in how we go about each day.  Wherever possible, Pfizer offers a flexible working environment, allowing our colleagues to balance and integrate the many demands and realities of daily life including caring responsibilities, study, travel and more. Pfizer offers many colleagues professional growth programs designed to gain various work experiences throughout the organisation locally and where possible, to gain work experience in overseas markets.

Global Health Fellows

Pfizer’s Global Health Fellow program connects colleagues with programs in the developing world to help improve health in communities worldwide.
Pfizer colleagues commit to up to six-month assignments working with non-government organisations (NGOs) addressing HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and other devastating diseases in developing countries.
Fellowship assignments are designed by our partners according to their needs, and Pfizer funds the Fellows' transportation, lodging and other expenses while maintaining their positions within the company. During their assignments, colleagues train and support their local counterparts, transferring skills so that the important contributions they make are sustainable over time.
Since 2003, 194 Global Health Fellows – including seven colleagues from Pfizer Australia – have been selected to work with NGOs in 38 countries to deliver healthcare and health system support to those in need around the world. These Fellows include Pfizer physicians, nurses, epidemiologists, laboratory technicians, marketing managers, financial administrators, and health educators.

Global Aid and Social Investments

Pfizer Australia is proudly part of a generous, global organisation. Pfizer has a team of experts dedicated to ensuring the support Pfizer provides is to the most needy people and places throughout the world. In some cases this may be product donations such as in  tragic weather or social disasters or it may be investing in sustainable and improved health care. The Pfizer Foundation is an independent charitable organisation that supports other charities and social investments around the world.

Clean Up Australia Day

Colleagues around the country pull together to support this well-known environmental, community cause. Enhancing the environment near where we have a commercial presence is important to colleagues at Pfizer.

Carers Week

Pfizer is a CARERS friendly workplace and with support from Carers Australia is developing policies and practices that are best practice in this regard. We proudly support initiatives of Carers Australia, raising awareness of the important role the millions of unpaid carers in our community make. Many of our colleagues are carers, and we seek to support them with these responsibilities.  

RU OK? Day

We check in on each other and support the awareness activities of RU OK? This day offers a unique platform for the conversation around metal wellbeing.

Red Cross Blood Bank

The Red Cross Mobile Blood Bank Service visited Pfizer West Ryde campus three times in 2015 and collected enough donations to save 336 lives.
