Pfizer Australia Pledges Tsunami Aid
Friday December 31, 2004
The colleagues of Pfizer Australia express their deepest sympathy and condolences
to all those affected by the earthquake and tsunami that struck many Asian
countries and the east coast of Africa.
Globally Pfizer has announced that it will donate AUD$13 million to local
and international relief organisations operating in the region. These will
include the American Red Cross/International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies,
International Rescue Committee, Catholic Relief Services, CARE, UNICEF, and
Save the Children as well as local relief organisations. Pfizer will also contribute
approximately AUD$32.6 million worth of the company’s healthcare products
which includes the anti-infective products Zithromax, Zyvox and Diflucan.
Additionally, Pfizer Australia is working with the Australian governments’ emergency
taskforce and Medicines Australia to assess which medicines are needed in the
disaster area. When areas of critical need are identified, Pfizer Australia
will work with the Australian Government to donate life saving medicines where
they are most needed.
Pfizer Australia has also pledged to match any donations made by Pfizer Australia
colleagues to the NGOs World Vision and CARE. Both charities have vast experience
in providing emergency relief and have guaranteed that all donations will go
directly to providing aid and support to the Tsunami victims.
Our thoughts, hopes and best wishes go out to all victims of the Tsunami and
their families.
