Swans visit Ermington Public School

Thursday June 29, 2006

Sydney Swans players Lewis Roberts-Thompson (left) and Ed Barlow addressed Ermington Public School 5/6B class students on Tuesday, June 27 2006.

It’s part of the Pfizer Australia TeamSWANS program where Sydney Swans players talk to year five and six children about healthy life choices and the impact they have on their lives.

It’s the third year the research-based medicines company has sponsored the program whereby players discuss dietary, personal and lifestyle choices as children prepare to go to high school.

The sessions are a real hit with the children which finish with a quick Aussie Rules skill session with each student receiving a Pfizer Australia TeamSWANS mini-football.

In 2005, players visited 66 Sydney schools with 1200 player hours spent with the children, the most since 1997 when the program first started.

Sydney Swans premiership player Jared Crouch said the players get a lot out of helping young students build their self-esteem and highlight the importance of goal setting.

“My goal was to win an AFL premiership and now I’ve done that I’ll be telling the students how I achieved my dream,” Jared Crouch said.

“It’s a fantastic program and we show how to set goals so kids can achieve their own dreams at this important time in their lives.”
