Pfizer Australia goes direct
Tuesday September 4, 2007
On Monday 17 September 2007 Pfizer Australia will launch a new supply chain innovation called “Pfizer Direct.” Pfizer Direct will provide pharmacies across Australia with an additional channel for the supply of Pfizer Australia’s pharmaceutical products.
Pfizer Direct will provide a simple net pricing of products directly to pharmacy. This new purchasing option will operate alongside existing pharmacy supply arrangements with all the other pharmaceutical wholesalers.
All Australian pharmacies will shortly receive a communication from Pfizer Australia providing details of this new service. A website and an 1800 number will be activated at launch.
The supply of Pfizer products will be managed from a central distribution point through DHL Exel Supply Chain (DHL), Pfizer Australia’s longstanding warehousing and distribution provider. Neither Pfizer Australia nor DHL will be claiming any Community Service Obligation (CSO) payments from the Government for products sold through this channel.
“The program has not been designed to increase revenue. In fact, it is unlikely that Pfizer Australia will increase revenue as a result of the program. It is, however, based on the desire to enhance the relationship between pharmacies and Pfizer Australia, recognising the important role that pharmacists play in providing healthcare advice to patients,” said Madonna McLaughlin, Pfizer Australia’s Head of Customer and Supply Chain Operations.
“It is important to note that Pfizer Direct will not replace existing supply arrangements – it is simply an additional service that pharmacies can choose to use if they wish,” she said.
