General Facts
Government Engagement and Political Contributions
Public policy affects Pfizer Australia’s ability to meet patient needs and provide shareholder value. Essential aspects of our business are being challenged by barriers to access, counterfeits, illegal importation and challenges to intellectual property protection. For this reason, we actively participate in public policy dialogues to explain our perspectives. We have extensive knowledge about health care and many ideas about improving its efficiency, as well as a global perspective on public health, disease prevention and health education.
We believe that public policy engagement is an important and appropriate role for companies in open societies, when conducted in a legal and transparent manner. In Australia, there is important disclosure laws with which Pfizer Australia complies.
Pfizer Australia does not provide cash donations to political parties in Australia, however, we actively engage in policy discussions with political parties through attendance at conferences, policy workshops, and round table discussions. Pfizer Australia may sponsor these events or pay a fee for the attendance of a Pfizer Australia representative.
From July 2007 to June 2008 Pfizer Australia contributed financially to the following parties:
- Australian Labor Party, $63,600
- Liberal Party of Australia, $71,700
- The Nationals, $4,400
