Investigator-Initiated Research

Pfizer Australia is interested in supporting high quality investigator-initiated research (IIR) conducted by a third party – whether an independent investigator or institution such as a university, hospital or clinic – that will advance medical and scientific knowledge about Pfizer products.

Such support will involve the provision of clinical supplies, pure substances or financial support.

Conditions of a successful approach to Pfizer Australia include the acceptance by the investigator or organisation of all the legal and regulatory responsibilities of a study sponsor.

Areas of Support

The over-riding criterion that determines Pfizer Australia’s support of IIR studies is that they are of outstanding scientific merit, however the types of IIR studies supported are wide-ranging. They include:

• Clinical studies of a previously approved or unapproved use of approved Pfizer drugs
• Clinical studies of unapproved Pfizer drugs
• In vitro or animal (ie preclinical) studies
• Non-interventional studies, for example those assessing Quality-of-Life, resource utilisation or health economics
• Other types of research on disease states and diagnoses including the development of diagnostic screening tools and surveys
